Gujarat is the largest producer of cotton in India. Other cotton producing states are Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. The black cotton soil of the Deccan plateau, known for its dryness, is ideal for cotton growth. Cotton can be cultivated under minimal rainfall and high temperature.
